Often confused with Mexican Independence Day, which is celebrated on September 16th, Cinco de Mayo holds a distinct and equally significant place in Mexican and Mexican-American history. Observed annually on May 5th, this vibrant holiday commemorates a pivotal moment in 1862 when the Mexican army achieved an improbable victory over invading French forces at the Battle of Puebla, known in Spanish as La Batalla de Puebla.

It’s a time for community gatherings, colorful fiestas, and an outpouring of Mexican pride that transcends borders.

The essence of any good celebration, and Cinco de Mayo is no exception, lies in the shared enjoyment of delectable food and refreshing beverages. The culinary landscape of Cinco de Mayo is a feast for the senses, typically featuring an array of beloved Mexican dishes. Tacos, with their endless fillings and vibrant toppings, are often the centerpiece, alongside crispy chips paired with fresh, zesty salsa and creamy guacamole. Enchiladas, quesadillas, and savory street corn (elotes) also make frequent appearances, creating a truly authentic Mexican culinary experience.

Description

Take your michelada to a new level by adding a spicy kick and a unique tequila twist! This Picante Picante recipe is quick to prepare and guaranteed to impress your guests with its bold flavors and refreshing taste.


Ingredients



  • 1 tablespoon sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon chili seasoning (e.g., Tajin or a blend of chili powder, salt, and lime)
  • 1 lime wedge, for rimming and garnish
  • Ice, to fill glass
  • 1/3 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1 bottle (12 oz) Corona Extra® beer, chilled
  • ½ ounce tequila blanco
  • Hot sauce, a few drops (adjust to your preferred spice level)

Instructions

  1. In a medium shallow bowl, combine the sea salt and chili seasoning. Stir thoroughly to ensure an even mix.
  2. Take a beer glass and run a lime wedge around its rim to moisten it. Dip the moistened rim into the chili-salt mixture, rotating until it’s evenly coated with the festive seasoning.
  3. Fill the prepared beer glass generously with ice. Pour in the fresh lime juice, followed by the chilled Corona Extra beer and the tequila blanco.
